Transition Mill Valley celebrates ‘Transition Sunday’  with a series of events in collaboration with the Mill Valley Film Festival’s October 11th  Sequoia Theatre environmental  film screenings:

  • Homegrown, a documentary  on local urban farming in Pasadena, CA
  • Tapped, a hard-hitting expose of bottled H20 and its  significant impact on our economy, environment and health.

Homegrown (1:00 PM – Sequoia Theatre)  sponsored by Whole Foods Market and San Domenico School.

A short accompanying the film:

Hidden Bounty of Marin: Farm Families in Transition
Beyond the image of Marin County’s pretty pastures and rolling grasslands is a revolution in the making. Over 200 small family farms and ranches are pioneering sustainable and organic farming practices that are having a radical impact on the way we eat. From heirloom apples to grass-fed beef, succulent oysters to creamy artisan cheese, this is a timely and mouth-watering overview of a vital local movement. Narrated by Peter Coyote.

Approaching and preparing for Peak Oil

Approaching and preparing for Peak Oil

Exquisitely photographed and featuring discourse from some of the world’s most renowned scientists, Blindspot expertly connects the dots between the energy we use, our economy and their joint effects on the environment — and explains why acting now is critical to create a vibrant future beyond  Peak oil.

“Doubtless Peak Oil will come, the timing is a matter of debate. However we may be better off if it is not too long delayed, because it will accelerate what must be done to prevent environmental catastrophe.”   -Noam Chomsky

In West Oakland, California, within earshot of the whoooossh of the elevated train and blocks from several glass-strewn vacant lots and a number of liquor stores, rests an oasis of greenery, complete with clucking chickens and a humming beehive.

Through intensive gardening techniques, City Slicker Farms, a network of four tiny farms comprising less than an acre between them, provides 20,000 pounds of organic produce per year to local residents on a sliding scale.

Inner Truth: Hexagram 61

Inner Truth (The Abysmal)

Inner Truth (The Abysmal)

the trigram above – SUN – The Gentle, Wind

the trigram below – TUI – The Joyous, Lake
from the Wilhelm/Baynes version (highly recommended)

The wind blows over the lake and stirs the surface of the water. This visible effects of the invisible manifest themselves. The hexagram consists of firm lines above and below, while it is open in the center. This indicates a heart free of prejudices and therefore open to the truth. On the other hand, each of the two trigrams has a firm line in the middle; this indicates the force of inner truth in the influences they represent.

The white tiger does not bite for the sake of killing, it bites only for the sake of surviving. Every action should be done for living, there is no other valid reason. The tiger is a symbol for supple moving. The white tiger is free from any aim, the only intention in all his moving is life itself. As soon as there is a purpose other than life in your action, a snake, then the swallows of easiness fly away. I Ching. Hexagram 61
